‘Somos pacifistas’, responde AMLO a Israel que se quejó de su postura sobre el conflicto en Gaza

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, refused this Tuesday to “quarrel” with Israel when defending his position of neutrality on the conflict in Gaza, criticized by the Israeli Embassy in Mexico.

“The ambassador of Israel in Mexico (Einat Kranz Neiger) expresses that she does not agree with our position, she has every right to say it, to express it, because we are free, we respect the Government of Israel and much more the people. of Israel, but «We don’t want war,» declared the president.

“I’m not going to argue, I respect what she said, I simply want her to know the basis of our position,” he added in his morning press conference.

López Obrador reacted to the statement from the Israeli Embassy, which this Monday called for «a more energetic and determined stance» from the Government of Mexico that «strongly condemns the barbaric acts perpetrated by the terrorist organization Hamas.»

The ambassador raised criticism in interviews with the press in which she considered López Obrador’s statements “out of place,” pointing out that they can be interpreted as a position of support for terrorism.

But the Mexican leader reiterated his position of “not taking sides” and asking for dialogue at the UN for peace.

«We do not want violence, we are pacifists, we do not want any human being of any nationality to lose their life, whether from Israel, whether from Palestine, we want the most important human right to be guaranteed, which is the right to life.» said the president.

“And we are pacifists, so we very much respect his statement, his position, but I hope you understand us, because our foreign policy is driven by principles,” he said.

The president cited article 89 of the Constitution, which requires basing Mexican foreign policy on non-intervention, the peaceful resolution of disputes and the fight for peace.

“This is what we achieved, and our respect and our condolences to the people of Israel, and our respect and our condolences to the Palestinian people, and to all the peoples who suffer violence, and what we have to try is to build peace. so that our people do not suffer,” he stated.

The death toll in Israel remains at 900 this Tuesday after the Hamas attack on Saturday, in the largest escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in decades, which has also resulted in at least 765 deaths in the Gaza Strip. EFE.
